Volunteer Groups
CELP has become an annual destination for many college volunteer groups from around the country. Some middle school and high school groups have volunteered with us as well. Groups of volunteers offer their services by way of service projects in exchange for food, housing, and guided recreation during week-long visits.
Volunteers have carried out many of our landscaping projects, land reclamation from invasive plant species, and garden construction. Their work has literally transformed the appearance and ecological integrity of our site and has invited praise from many who visit. Much of our work is done in conjunction with the Catalina Island Conservancy and their Stop the Spread program.
Although not explicitly educational, a week of volunteering will teach groups basic land stewardship including work with the Howlands Garden Project as well as introduce volunteers to the diversity of flora and fauna around Catalina Island. Guided recreational activities typically include snorkeling, kayaking, and hiking.
Join us for a week in the spring or fall.
